PlayPosit is an interactive video tool that can be used for formative evaluation to guide the teaching process and support students' achievement of the course learning outcomes. Formative evaluation aids faculty in assessing students' learning, providing constructive feedback to students, and improving own teaching techniques. The faculty recorded video lectures for a "fundamentals of nursing" course of 30 students. They uploaded other videos based on 6 competencies: teamwork and collaboration; safety; patient-centered care; evidence-based practice; informatics; and quality improvement. These competencies are the key to providing safe and quality patient care when entering nursing practice. The videos were paused every 2 minutes, prompting students to complete one of the 10 pop-up questions, which needed to be answered correctly for students to continue. Faculty provided feedback for answers that were wrong. Students were asked to answer quiz questions, which include multiple-choice, fill-in-the blank, free response, and discussion board. Faculty select a point value of 2 to assign a score to each question. From the reflective pause menu of the PlayPosit tool, students provided their insight into its implementation to the course. The students reported that they were motivated and engaged when watching the videos. Also, others described that with the videos, they were able to develop their critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills. Using PlayPosit as a formative evaluation facilitates a bridge between students' learning needs and faculty teaching techniques. Faculty can adjust their instructional strategies, which is an integral part of the learning cycle, to help students achieve the course learning outcomes.
