Abstract

In a large academic medical center in Houston, Texas, the COVID-19 pandemic prompted creativity to meet staffing demands and challenges. Through interprofessional collaboration, nursing professional development practitioners and the leadership team created new roles, planned and implemented new processes, provided training, and embraced a new care model. One hundred seventeen staff members were upskilled over a 4-week period to fulfill the new roles and to work in a team-based care model.
