Engaging students in a conversation about dying and death can be difficult. This teaching strategy involves having breakfast to create a comfortable dialogue about dying and death. Applying a format created by Hebb, founder of Death Over Dinner,1 the presentation was created to engage students in their first discussion about dying and death while sharing a meal. Using the flipped classroom teaching approach, preclassroom materials are posted on the student online learning platform for class preparation, which included clips to 2 video presentations and 1 supplemental reading in addition to usual preclass materials. Students are expected to review all materials and complete readings before class attendance. For a face-to-face classroom experience, arranging the classroom desks/tables into a long dining table format allows students to share a meal while the instructor facilitates and creates a safe environment to discuss content and share life experiences, thoughts, and beliefs about dying and death. If the class is offered in a virtual environment, students can have breakfast during the discussion of the content. The relaxed format allows greater student engagement and learning. Students reported being comfortable enough to ask questions until all were answered.
