In January, we provided an update on the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) 2023 strategic planning process. The ANPD Board of Directors (BOD) is pleased to announce the finalized strategic plan! As a refresher, the BOD started the planning process in 2019 based on our core values, with a focus on continuing to establish ANPD as the thought leader in nursing professional development and to firmly establish our specialty within nursing (ANPD, 2020).
The BOD contracted Kari Schmidt to help lead the process, which included multiple opportunities for member input into the process. Members participated in a survey to help the BOD focus on key priorities. Three key priorities were identified:
1. advocating for the nursing professional development specialty,
2. promoting evidence-based practice, and
3. providing products and services.
These themes were used to develop interview questions for the BOD to conduct one-on-one interviews with ANPD members in July and August 2020. Information from the focused interviews allowed the team to define and refine the needs of the ANPD members and the organization as a whole. The remainder of 2020 was spent compiling data and finalizing the strategic plan.
The strategic plan is broken down into three strategic goals, and each goal has multiple action items. The full list can be found on the website (ANPD, 2021). The ANPD 2023 strategic goals with a few of the key action items are presented in Table 1.
The ANPD looks forward to the next 3 years of growth and development of the organization and our members. Please look for continued opportunities to participate in ANPD events, task forces, and committees. The strength of our organization is our members, and we value your input as we continue our journey! The BOD would like to thank all who participated in our strategic planning process, especially Kari Schmidt, for her leadership and guidance through this process!
