The ASSURE model may be an effective teaching strategy to use with nursing students. The ASSURE model incorporates Gagne's 9 events of instruction when presenting or delivering any form of educational content to novice or expert learners: (1) gain learners' attention, (2) inform them of the objectives, (3) stimulate learners' recall, (4) present the information, (5) provide guidance to facilitate learners' understanding, (6) have them demonstrate the skill, (7) give feedback to learners, (8) assess performance, and (9) enhance retention and transfer.1
The 6 steps of the ASSURE model are as follows: (1) analyze learners: know and understand the target audience; (2) state objectives: establish learning outcomes that specify what learners will gain from the lesson and technology integration; (3) select methods: select the instructional methods, media, and materials that are appropriate for the teaching and learning environment; (4) utilize media and materials: be ready to implement these in teaching; (5) require learner participation: provide opportunities for learners to participate and reflect; and (6) evaluate and revise: obtain input from the learners.2
