The National League for Nursing (NLN) has created a new accreditation division, the NLN Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA). The NLN CNEA was launched in September 2013 by vote of the NLN membership as an option for schools of nursing seeking programmatic accreditation for their programs. As a division of the NLN, the NLN CNEA works synergistically with its parent organization to fulfill the mission of promoting excellence in nursing education globally. The NLN CNEA accredits programs across the academic spectrum, including vocational/practical, diploma, associate, bachelors, master's, and postmaster's certificates, and clinical doctorate programs, including those with a primary focus of preparing nurse educators. As a new accrediting body, the NLN CNEA is seeking recognition from the US Department of Education as a Category Two, non-Title IV gatekeeper. Led by executive director, Judith A. Halstead, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF (mailto:[email protected]), the NLN CNEA provides accreditation services that are built upon the NLN core values of diversity, excellence, integrity, and caring. Accreditation standards have been finalized and are posted on the agency's Web site at http://www.nln.org/cnea. Applications for preaccreditation candidacy are now being accepted from programs, and CNEA will conduct its first on-site visits in September 2016.
