MEET THE ANPD BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) strives to meet the needs of its members and to elevate the profession. The activities of the organization are guided by a volunteer Board of Directors elected from its membership. Board members set the strategic direction of the organization, and have ultimate fiduciary responsibilities for ensuring that the organization is fiscally sound for a sustainable future. In their roles, board members establish professional and business partnerships to grow the organization and are engaged in a wide range of activities such as endorsing decisions related to annual convention and reviewing recommendations for products and services. The Board is supported by a dedicated team from our association management firm that is always looking out for the best interests of the organization. This update will introduce the ANPD Board of Directors as of July 2015.

President Joan Warren PhD, RN-BC, NEA-BC, is a long-standing active ANPD member and is beginning the second year of her presidential term. As a newly selected Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), she is recognized for her work in education, research, and policy development, which has impacted nursing professionalism at the hospital, state, and national levels. Dr. Warren has been an ANPD convention podium presenter, and has contributed as a chapter author for the current and past editions of the Core Curriculum. Her past roles on the Board of Directors and on the ANPD Research Committee have prepared her to lead our organization into the future. Making ANPD the organization of choice for those who practice nursing professional development as their specialty is a priority for Dr. Warren. This will be accomplished by building the science of the profession, and collaborative partnerships with other professional organizations with which ANPD shares interests and by way of the programs and products that are offered.

ANPD Treasurer Ann Colvin, MSN, RN-BC, is responsible to oversee ANPD finances. She works with our management company staff and the Board of Directors to ensure that the organization remains financially solvent. Ann currently serves as an Advanced Nursing Coordinator at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Ann has been actively involved in nursing professional development (NPD) for over 30 years, and is particularly interested in promoting advancement of nurses through certification and professional development. She supports ANPD's quest toward excellence by creating standard setting, cutting edge, and evidence-based resources for its members.

Chris Wilson, MSN, RN-BC, began her term as President-elect for ANPD in July 2015. She is the Director for Nursing Education and Professional Development at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Chris has been active in ANPD at the local and national levels, serving most recently as a Director on the ANPD board. Years of experience at the local level and activity at the national level have reinforced Chris' commitment to the national organization, and its role in the growth of NPD as a specialty and the support of members at the frontlines of practice. Recognition of the leadership role for NPD practitioners is a priority.

New to the ANPD Board this year is Director Cathy Gage MHA, RN-BC. Cathy is a Professional Development Coordinator at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Prior to joining the board, Cathy was active as a member and as the chair on the ANPD Products and Services committee. She has been actively involved at both the national and local levels, acting as President of her affiliate. Cathy is passionate about professionalism and professional development. She is excited to see the expansion of NPD, particularly related to consultation and research.

Director Sara Levin, MSN, RN-BC, is the current Manager of Nursing Professional Development and Research at NorthShore University HealthSystem in Chicago, Illinois, and is in her second term on the Board of Directors. She has over 15 years of experience in NPD and has been an active ANPD member all of that time. She has served as chair of a past annual convention committee. Sara is passionate about professional development of new NPD specialists. She is committed to seeing ANPD continue to grow and develop as a vibrant and sustainable organization that supports the practice of nursing professional development.

Director Patsy Maloney, EdD, MSN, RN-BC, CEN, NEA-BC, also new to the Board, began her term in July. Patsy is a familiar name to many in NPD. She is currently co-chairing the NPD Scope and Standards Workshop that is reviewing and revising that document for our specialty. Dr. Maloney is currently a Professor and Director of Continuing Nursing Education at Pacific Lutheran University in Seattle, Washington.

Director Linda Misko, MSN, RN-BC, has been an active, contributing member to ANPD for over 12 years. She is the current Education Manager at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. Linda has been actively involved on past convention planning committees and served as the chair of the 2014 committee. She brings what she has learned working with groups at the local and regional levels and applies it at the national level. She has also been a chapter author for the three past editions of the Core Curriculum for Nursing Professional Development. In alignment with the goal of becoming the recognized resource for NPD, effective branding of ANPD through products and services is a priority for Linda.

Michele Noble, MN, APRN, RN-BC, is new to the ANPD Board of Directors this year. She is a past Education Manager at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas, and is currently an Assistant Professor at the MidAmerica Nazarene University School of Nursing and Health Sciences. Michele has been an ANPD member since 2006, and has been involved at her local level as well as serving as chair of the annual convention for 2015. Michele is an experienced planner for nursing continuing education and will bring her expertise to her role on the board.

Commitment and passion for advancing the specialty of nursing professional development and for the future growth of our organization is a prevailing theme for the leaders of ANPD. Successful track records in their individual roles, as well as a strong history of working with groups, are an indicator of the willingness and ability of the board members to contribute to the future direction of ANPD.
