With the endorsement of the Essentials of Master's Education in Nursing by AACN membership in April 2011, faculty and administrators are working to integrate the essentials into curricula. The AACN has needed resources available to assist with curricular and practice changes, including webinars "Nursing Education Programs and the Master's Essentials" and "Revising Curricula for the New Master's Essentials."
In addition to these resources, AACN is developing a faculty tool kit that includes frequently asked questions, integrative learning strategies, links to relevant competency documents, and a "crosswalk" between the AACN Essentials documents for BSN, DNP, and master's education. Peer consultation at AACN meetings related to strategies for adopting the Essentials will be provided. The AACN is also working to schedule relevant program sessions at various meetings. The Information Clearinghouse that supplies notices about webinars and new resources is a useful tool, available at http://www.aacn.nche.edu/MSNessentials.htm. By using resources provided by AACN, we can make this transition smoother, more consistent across regions, and more relevant.
