Keynote Address Will Feature a Mock Trial

The keynote address at the 25th Annual Clinical Symposium on Advances in Skin & Wound Care is sure to be an educational and stimulating event. "Litigation Trends in Wound Care: You Be the Jury!" will be presented by Caroline E. Fife, MD, and Kevin W. Yankowsky, JD, during the opening events on Thursday, September 30, 2010, at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The session will discuss the legal trends in wound care facing all healthcare providers. Following the lecture portion of the event, a mock trial concept will be used to demonstrate crucial elements of patient documentation. This hands-on demonstration will give attendees a peek inside the inner workings of such courtroom proceedings.

The symposium, which continues September 30 through October 3, 2010, will offer an array of educational sessions. Among the many other highlights is a full-day pre-conference workshop on "Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Treatment Guidelines: The Transition from Guideline to Practice Reality." Endorsed by the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP), this high-powered workshop will focus on the "how to" of implementing the new NPUAP-EPUAP (European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel) 2009 Pressure Ulcer Prevention and Treatment Guidelines into practice in the clinical setting. Each of the sections of the prevention and treatment guidelines will be addressed, as well as a comprehensive focus on developing, implementing, and sustaining, over time, pressure ulcer prevention and treatment protocols for an interdisciplinary team. Scheduled to lead the event are Diane Langemo, PhD, RN, FAAN; Janet Cuddigan, PhD, RN, CWCN, CCCN; Joyce M. Black, PhD, RN, CPSN, CWCN, FAPWCA; Mary Ellen Posthauer, RD, CD, LD; Laurie McNichol, MSN, RN, GNP, CWOCN; and Carrie Sussman, PT.

These are just two of the fall program's many features. Stayed tuned for more symposium highlights in the upcoming months. See you in Nashville!
