Myrtle K. Aydelotte, PhD, RN, FAAN, passed away on January 7, 2010, in her home in Rochester, New York. She was 92 years old. Dr. Aydelotte graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1939, and received her doctorate there in 1955. She served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II, in the northern African and Italian campaigns. Dr. Aydelotte had a long and distinguished professional career, including positions as founding dean and professor at the University of Iowa College of Nursing, director of nursing at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and chief executive officer of the American Nurses Association from 1977 to 1981. After her retirement, Dr. Aydelotte moved to Rochester to be near her family. She continued to be active as a volunteer at St. John's Meadows, a senior living community, and, in 2008, she received the St. John's Communities Leadership Award. Predeceased by her husband, William, Dr. Aydelotte is survived by two daughters and four grandchildren.
