ABSTRACT
Hematuria is a very common finding in patients who present to the emergency department. The origins of hematuria are diverse and numerous. Hematuria can be a benign finding, such as in exercise-induced hematuria, or a symptom of a serious condition, such as a urinary malignancy. The purpose of this article is to discuss the incidence, risk factors, basic pathophysiology, and etiology of hematuria. Included within the discussion of the etiology are diagnostics and basic treatment.
