I was appalled to read about the Texas nurses who were fired for reporting a physician they believed acted inappropriately (In the News, October 2009). Other nurses may now think twice before reporting unethical behavior. What message is being sent to medical personnel by firing those who are looking out for the patient's best interests?
I am elated to see that other nurses, namely those affiliated with the Texas Nurses Association, are standing behind these whistleblowers and showing their support.
To all nurses who've witnessed unethical behavior, I hope you'll take a stand and report your findings, knowing that other nurses will support you.
