National Alliance of Wound Care
The National Alliance of Wound Care (NAWC), a multidisciplinary, wound care credentialing and association organization, announced the launch of its wound care specialty online Job Resource Center in conjunction with its newly redesigned Web site: http://www.nawccb.org.
"We are very excited to support our nearly 8000 certified wound care professionals with this newly redesigned Web site. The Web site has several helpful features, including the dynamic online Job Resource Center, Wound Care Careers," said Debbie Hecker, RN, MBA, WCC, NAWC executive director.
The Wound Care Careers Job Resource Center
* puts wound care employers and job seekers together,
* allows job seekers to promote themselves by publishing their resume and curriculum vitae on the Job Resource Center, and
* displays positions related to wound care clinicians and management.
Open positions on Wound Care Careers are sourced from the 175 nonprofit association members of the National Health Care Career Network, including founding member, the American Hospital Association. These openings can be viewed by nearly 8000 highly qualified wound care-certified and other wound care clinicians. American Professional Wound Care Association
The American Professional Wound Care Association (APWCA) will host "APWCA2010, National Clinical Conference, Wound Care and the Related Sciences," a conference for all wound care professionals at the Sheraton Philadelphia City Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, April 8-11, 2010.
APWCA2010 brings together thought and content leaders discussing the many aspects of current best practice and evidence-based standards for daily clinical care for complex wounds. This includes diagnosis of atypical wounds and skin cancers, as well as the latest in the daily management for new options for care for the more common forms of nonhealing chronic and acute wounds. The faculty will provide a global perspective on diagnosis and treatment that will be applicable to the immediate care of patients as registrants return to their place of practice.
The more than 40 anticipated faculty are all chosen for their background and teaching skills and include internationally known wound care leaders such as Dieter Mayer, MD, FAPWCA, Switzerland; Michael Edmonds, MD, FRCP, FAPWCA, England; Ching-Jenand Wang, MD, Taiwan; R. Gary Sibbald, BSc, MD, MEd, FRCPC (Med) (Derm), MACP, FAAD, FAPWCA, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and more. From the United States, additional thought and content leaders in wound care serving as faculty include William Li, MD; Harold Brem, MD, FAPWCA; Steven Kavros, DPM, FAPWCA; Allen Jacobs, DPM, FAPWCA; Robert Frykberg, DPM, FAPWCA; Diane Krasner, RN, PhD, MAPWCA; Elizabeth Ayello, RN, PhD, MAPWCA; Sharon Baranoski, MSN, DAPWCA; and many more.
The scientific program includes breakout sessions and general sessions that discuss many aspects directly germane to the open wound surface, and also those related to the periwound and, as important, systemic and metabolic pathology that impacts on wound healing. This is a full-spectrum, comprehensive conference that offers 30 contact hours of education, social activities, and a great downtown location to match. Museums, cultural activities, and Philadelphia's terrific restaurants are closely available to fit the interests, palates, and pocketbooks of all attendees.

Council for Medical Education and Testing
The Physician-Specific Wound Care Certification Examination credentials all prescribing physicians (MD, DO, and DPM) and is offered by the Council for Medical Education and Testing (CMET). The certification process is the examination endorsed by the American Professional Wound Care Association (APWCA) and recognized by the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine. It is the first certification process specifically for physicians in the field, produced and administered by an organization of physicians and for physicians. The CMET intends this to be the first step to obtain specialty recognition in wound care, which traditionally has been accomplished by physician-specific organizations.
The CMET examination has undergone multiple beta testing and critical analysis of questions by practicing physicians to ensure that the examination is relevant to the current standards of daily practice. There are no dues or membership fee for CMET.
The next examination will be offered on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, Los Angeles, California, an LAX Airport hotel. The examination will also be offered on Sunday, April 11, 2010, in conjunction with APWCA2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
