The American Professional Wound Care Association
Review Course. The American Professional Wound Care Association (APWCA) is offering "The Essentials-A Comprehensive Review and Refresher Course on Wound Care Management and Intervention," January 16 and 17, 2010, at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, an LAX airport hotel, in Los Angeles, California. The meeting runs a full day on Saturday and a half day on Sunday for 15 total hours, thus avoiding conflict with regular physician practice hours.
Seven faculty members, all leaders in wound care and well-known lecturers, make this program also a valuable tool for certification examination preparation, including the Physician Wound Care Certification Exam offered by the Council for Medical Education and Testing. The lectures will feature multiple subjects that serve as a broad-based review on the standard treatments for diabetic, ischemic, venous, and pressure ulcers. This includes management of the wounds and diseases that directly impact on healing.
APWCA2010. APWCA2010 Wound Care and the Related Sciences will be the APWCA's ninth national conference. Designed for all wound care professionals, the event will be held on April 8-10, 2010, Sheraton Philadelphia City Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. APWCA2010 will be highlighted by a number of new faculty who are thought and content leaders in wound care, who will work with a core of successful faculty who have participated in past conferences to provide a different global perspective on the diagnosis and treatment of difficult healing wounds. Faculty, who were chosen for their background, communication skills, and ability to teach, include Dieter Mayer, MD, FAPWCA, Switzerland; Michael Edmonds, MD, FRCP, FAPWCA, London, United Kingdom; William Li, MD, FAPWCA, Boston, Massachusetts; and many more. Steven Kavros, DPM, FAPWCA, will lecture on "The Swollen Limb" and Allen Jacobs, DPM, FAPWCA, will discuss "Neuropathy."
The full spectrum of infection and its complications will be discussed during the APWCA-iLegx Collaborative Symposium. The symposium addresses diabetic foot infections and osteomyelitis, antimicrobials, and recognition of the infected wound.

Council for Medical Education and Testing
The Council for Medical Education and Testing (CMET) is the only physician-specific testing organization in the United States and offers physician-specific certification in wound care. CMET Exams are scheduled for noon to 5 pm, February 27, at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, LAX Airport, Los Angeles, California; and 8 am to 1 pm, April 11, 2010, at the Sheraton Philadelphia City Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in conjunction with APWCA2010, the National Clinical Conference of the American Professional Wound Care Association.
Developed by physicians for physicians, the CMET Exam was created in response to credentialing committees that requested physician-specific certification. The CMET has outlined perceived benefits of the examination, as reported by those who have become physicians certified in wound care-CMET.
* The CMET Exam is the first to be physician-specific. It is peer-produced and peer-proven.
* The CMET Exam is paving the way for specialty growth. CMET supports physician recognition of wound care as a new specialty. In the past, specialty recognition has been achieved only through physician-specific organizations.
* The CMET Exam is the professional's mark of achievement, the public seal of quality care, and the foundation for specialty recognition.
* The American Professional Wound Care Association, which endorses the CMET exam, is approaching 3000 active members and represents more physicians and podiatrists than any other US Wound Care Organization (http://www.apwca.org).

Canadian Association of Wound Care
New CEO. Dr Karen Philp has been appointed as chief executive officer of the Canadian Association of Wound Care (CAWC).
"We're extremely pleased to have Karen Philp join us in our efforts to support the education, prevention, and treatment of various forms of wounds, including lower limb ulcers, pressure ulcers, and those associated with surgery, burns, and cancer," said Cathy Burrows, RN, president of the CAWC Board of Directors. "Karen Philp has distinguished herself as a strong leader who will proactively champion the CAWC's vision to promote the prevention and management of wounds on behalf of Canadian patients and healthcare providers."
Dr Philp has served as vice president of Public Policy and Government Relations at the Canadian Diabetes Association for the past 6 years.
