National MRSA education initiative. According to recent data, skin infections suspected of being caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) result in 12 million visits to physicians each year in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has begun the National MRSA Education Initiative to help consumers, nurses, and other health care professionals better recognize and prevent MRSA skin infections. Materials available for nurses and other health care professionals include a brochure, a flyer, an information card, and a resource kit. A printable algorithm for treating skin and soft tissue infections is also available.
