The economic downturn is taking a toll on workers' health, according to a survey of 1,500 insured workers at large companies (2,000 or more employees) commissioned by the National Business Group on Health. To save money, one in four workers is refusing medical treatment, and one in five is skipping prescription drug dosages. Stress and anxiety are having a deleterious effect on mental health for 40%, and financial health is reportedly worse for about half. In addition, 68% said having access to health benefits is a main reason for staying with their employer, and 52% considered cost to be the most important factor when choosing a health plan.
