SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HEALTHCARE
If there is any doubt that social justice is a nursing concern, this issue of Advances in Nursing Science (ANS) provides ample evidence to support this position. Thanks to the ability to publish online-only articles in ANS, we were able to include 14 articles, all of which received peer reviews supporting their publication in ANS. This kind of response to our call for articles for this issue of ANS attests to the fact that social justice is not an isolated concern of just a small cohort of politically interested nurses. It is a fundamental concern for our discipline. Consistent with the overall purposes of ANS, these articles provide stimulating ideas-perspectives that challenge the status quo of social injustices that affect the health and well-being of people worldwide.
ANS remains a leading publication in nursing, maintaining traditions of challenging and cutting-edge, high-quality scholarship. The journal's "brand"-the unique cover design-and our tradition of quality have remained constant for over 30 years. But many aspects of publishing have changed over these 30 years, and ANS has kept pace and led the way. In 2005, our submissions and peer review process shifted to the Web-based Editorial Manager system. In 2008, we began publishing selected articles ahead of print-the "Publish Ahead of Print (PAP)" feature on the journal's home page at http://www.advancesinnursingscience.com/. If you are an individual subscriber to ANS, you have access online to all articles- all-published since 1978!!
Now, whether you are a subscriber or not, you can customize the http://www.advancesinnursingscience.com site to make it your own "ANS home page." Here are a few of things you can do:
* save searches of articles in ANS,
* create personal article collections,
* set up e-mail and RSS alerts,
* export references into your favorite citation manager, and
* export figures from full-text articles into PowerPoint.
The site now shows featured articles, such as "most viewed" and "most e-mailed." It will feature regular messages from the editor and information about new features coming from the publisher. Many other new features will be added to the site over the coming months to enhance the journal readability, accessibility, usability, and impact.
