The country of Jordan is nestled in the center of the Middle East, ideally situated to have great impact on the surrounding countries, especially in the field of healthcare. A group of Jordanian endoscopy nurses with strong zeal for improving overall standards in endoscopy departments visited hospitals in Amman and surrounding areas to assess the conditions, staffing, and disinfecting methods used. With the encouragement of their physicians and the Jordanian Nursing Council, the Jordanian Association for Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (JAGENA) was founded in 2004 and has made great strides to achieve their organizational and educational aims of improving the quality of nursing in endoscopy units and to assure quality and safe practice standards. Visiting some of these hospitals and observing the high standards set in the endoscopy departments was an eye opener and a lesson of what can be done with the right determination and commitment. The need for continuing education for endoscopy nurses was imminent and JAGENA successfully launched their 3rd Scientific Education Day full of relevant topics and passionate speakers. This was a journey not only to a beautiful historical country, but a journey into the visionary minds of fellow endoscopy nurses.
