Features and functions of the RENASYS EZ include a control that varies pressure from 40 to 200 mm Hg and the ability to use both foam and gauze dressings, according to the manufacturer. The device also offers quick-click connectors than can help reduce the risk of error, multiple safety alarms, battery life of up to 40 hours and battery recharge in 3 hours, and an intravenous pole and bed mounts to reduce the system's footprint at the patient's bedside.

The Food and Drug Administration has expanded the indication for AQUACEL and AQUACEL Ag Dressings with Hydrofibe Technology from ConvaTec, Skillman, New Jersey, for the management of surgical wounds that heal by primary intent (wound edges heal directly touching each other), including dermatologic, orthopedic, and vascular incisions. In addition, the initial indication for use in surgical wounds left to heal by secondary intent (wound edges cannot be held together and scar tissue forms) was clarified to specifically encompass dehisced surgical incisions. AQUACEL Ag Dressing also received an expanded indication for the management of infected wounds.

Specifically designed for BD's catheter system, the dressing offers a new alternative to address catheter movement, dislodgments, and fallouts.
