JUST COURAGE
GOD'S GREAT EXPEDITION FOR THE RESTLESS CHRISTIAN
By Gary A. Haugen
150 pp., Downers Grove, IL: IVP Books, 2008, $18.00, hardcover.
Brief: Gary Haugen, president and CEO of International Justice Mission, former attorney in the civil rights division of the U.S. Department of Justice, and former director of the United Nations genocide investigation in Rwanda, suggests there must be more to the Christian life than church each Sunday, waving to neighbors, and giving clothes to Goodwill. These aren't bad things but Haugen feels we are "going on the journey but missing the adventure," only doing what is safe, comfortable, and easy. He has found that engaging in the fight for justice is the most deeply satisfying way of life. He introduces and shows us how we can be part of God's great expedition of seeking justice, rescuing the oppressed, defending the orphan and pleading for the widow (Isaiah 1:17).
