The incidence of cancer and death rates for all cancers combined are on the decline in both men and women, according to a study conducted by the American Cancer Society, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Cancer Institute, and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries. The "Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer, 1975-2005, Featuring Trends in Lung Cancer, Tobacco Use, and Tobacco Control" appears in the December 3, 2008 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (http://jnci.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/full/djn389). This marks the first simultaneous decline in cancer incidence and death rates in men and women since the report was first issued in 1998.
