The August editorial was both thought provoking and right on target. To Diana Mason's question, "Why is the AMA acting as though it's under threat from nurses?" I dare say, "Because they should be!!"
Let's tell it like it is: It's generally accepted that approximately 47 million Americans are without health insurance, including children without basic health care and elderly patients without sufficient medical coverage. Because of this, the most powerful and wealthy medical association should be under attack and feel threatened. The AMA needs to get to work, or get out of the way and let us do the job.
It's apparent, from the AMA's recent myopic and self-serving resolution to have complete responsibility for patient care, that this organization is unwilling to begin solving any of America's health care problems. Meanwhile, DNPs can provide safe and inexpensive good care.
