Jennifer Loschen is a sophomore at Redmond High School in Redmond, WA. She was 11 years old when she underwent an emergency appendectomy at a local hospital, Group Health Cooperative, in October 2004. About a month later she drew this picture, which takes its title from the theme of the 2004-2005 Emily Dickinson Elementary Parent-Teacher-Student Association's Reflections contest. This drawing was awarded an Honorable Mention.
Jennifer writes, "In the drawing I tried to put emphasis on the nurse and not so much on myself, to signify how she was able to cure me while I was helpless. The monsters represent the sickness and pain I felt [horizontal ellipsis] I thank the nurses and doctors who took care of me with such patience and kindness." Contact artist: [email protected].
