Thank you for "Third-Spacing: When Body Fluid Shifts" (July 2008).* I was a medical/surgical nurse for over 20 years before moving to the ICU, and yes, I know about third-spacing. But this article has given me such a complete understanding of the process that I now feel better prepared to care for patients experiencing third-space fluid shifts.
Nurses are continually learning. When a light bulb goes on and we gain a complete understanding of a physiologic concept, it certainly benefits the patient. That's what quality nursing is all about.
