The best diet for infants during the first 4 to 6 months is breast milk. If breast milk or baby formula is not available, the nurse can choose between two options.
Option 1
* 2 parts boiled, cooled cow's milk
* 1 part boiled, cooled water
* 1 large spoonful of sugar or oil for each large glass
Option 2
* 2 parts canned evaporated milk
* 3 parts boiled, cooled water
* 1 large spoonful sugar or oil for each large glass
To treat dehydration, give breast milk first, then offer oral rehydration therapy. Give sips of the following every few minutes:
* 1 liter of clean water
* 1/2 teaspoon of salt
* 8 teaspoon of sugar
