Abstract
This Ceres conference was the first forum in the United States to examine health and moderate beer consumption. The goals of the conference were to review the science on both the health benefits of moderate beer and alcohol consumption and the risks of excessive beer and alcohol consumption. In addition, the challenges of communicating the health benefits of moderate consumption and the risks to consumers were addressed. This article summarizes the presentations given by the speakers. The conference goals were in keeping with the mission of the Center for Food, Nutrition, and Agriculture Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park, which is to advance rational, science-based food, nutrition, and agriculture policy
