Rita K. Hillman, age 95, died November 8, 2007, at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Hillman was the president of the Alex Hillman Family Foundation and over the past 30 years supported nursing in New York City. She created nursing scholarships at New York University, the University of Pennsylvania, Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing, and Lenox Hill Hospital. Her interest in nursing began as a young child seeing the excellent care her ailing father received. She believed everyone in New York City deserved the same quality nursing care. She won the AJN-Beatrice Renfield Caring for the Caregiver Award in 2004.
