Now that its 28th outing has come to a close, it's once again official that Nursing Management's Congress events are truly must-attend occurrences. This year's annual excursion trumped expectations-not only did turnout exceed more than 1,200 attendees, but the workshops, topics, and educational sessions on the latest "hot" industry topics were well received and enthusiastically attended. Areas such as ethics, finance, leadership, outcomes, recruitment and retention, and interpersonal growth and development were discussed, and a total of 25.25 continuing-education contact hours were offered to those in attendance.
One of the more traditional aspects of the Congress is the announcement of the year's Visionary Leader Award, which was sponsored by B.E. Smith. Presented by Editor-in-Chief and Congress Chair Richard Hader, RN, CNA, CHE, CPHQ, PhD, FAAN, this year's honoree was Marilyn Margolis, RN, MN, director of nursing operations, Emory University Hospital, Ga. Highlighting her accomplishments far and wide ranging in the field of nursing, the winning manuscript is published on pages 16 through 19 of this issue.
"Each year, Nursing Management honors an individual who embodies the qualities of a visionary leader," Hader explains. "This individual, who is nominated by his or her staff, is one that utilizes expert skills to lead others to advance the profession of nursing, improve patient care, or has developed innovative strategies to enhance the work environment. The recipient this year, Marilyn Margolis, has illustrated her exceptional talents by being the lead individual for implementing several key initiatives, including implementing a heart attack rescue team, a bariatric center of excellence, a primary stroke center, and spearheading an electronic charting system. Ms. Margolis is a true patient and nurse advocate who values innovation and collaboration amongst all team members."
Nursing Management will continue its Congress tradition next year, this time at the Las Vegas Hilton in Las Vegas, Nev., from September 29 to October 2. In the meantime, don't miss the journal's Recruitment & Retention Conference at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel, Boston, Mass., from April 11 to 13.
