As an NP in a collaborative family practice, I have never used presigned prescriptions (Letters, "Full Prescribing Privileges," June). The practice of presigning prescriptions is illegal and dangerous to patients, the community, and the NP profession. If the use of presigned prescriptions is discovered by the Drug Enforcement Agency, prescribers are not only fined but also have their licenses revoked. What if an unauthorized person obtains the prescriptions? Moreover, if NPs do not follow the current laws, they may never be able to obtain the prescribing privileges they deserve.
