The International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care Press has announced the publication of a report on the status of hospice and palliative care in 42 of 52 participating European nations. Compiled by the Task Force of the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC), which includes members from the EAPC and the International Observatory in End of Life Care, the Worldwide Palliative Care Alliance, and the IAHPC, the "EAPC Atlas on the Development of Palliative Care in Europe" is available as both a book and a CD. Using tables and maps, the report offers information about the status of palliative care in all countries of Europe, taking into account political, social, and healthcare policy. The EAPC Task Force worked for 4 years on the project, and the Atlas represents the largest palliative care research collaboration of its kind. The IAHPC also announced support for a new effort to improve communication, information dissemination, and transfer of knowledge through a global effort named the Palliative Care Network, under the leadership of Dr. Parag Bharadwaj. The Palliative Care Network has been designed to provide an Internet platform for palliative care professionals to teach, interact, and exchange ideas with fellow colleagues to improve patient care. Volunteers facilitate the education of colleagues throughout the world where palliative care education is deficient, and the network encourages the participation of all palliative care disciplines.
