The shortage of nursing educators needs no further research: look at salaries ("Educational Mobility of RNs in North Carolina: Who Will Teach Tomorrow's Nurses?" Original Research, May). I'm an adjunct faculty member and would earn considerably more as a bedside critical care nurse. Many full-time faculty members have weekend jobs to make ends meet. Bedside nurses succeeded in pushing up their salaries because their employers know they have a role in a consumer's decision to return to a facility. Educators' salaries remain low. But since they're preparing students to make critical decisions, shouldn't they be paid commensurate with their responsibilities?
