Abstract

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to trace historical landmarks of nursing thought and examine how it determines nursing practice.

OBJECTIVES: After completing this independent study unit, learners will be able to:

1. Explore ways that philosophy and nursing theory have influenced the way we practice nursing.

2. Trace the religious, social, political, scientific and academic trends that have had an impact on current nursing thought.

3. Identify concepts in selected nursing theories, which are antithetical to a Christian worldview.
