Ada R. Plumer, Hyannis, Massachusetts. Plumer, a retired IV therapy nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, died March 18. According to a press release issued by the hospital, where she worked for 40 years, Massachusetts General was the first hospital to permit nurses to administer IV therapies, and Plumer was the first IV nurse. In 1973, she and Marguerite Knight cofounded the National Intravenous Therapy Association, now known as the Infusion Nurses Society. In 1970, her Principles and Practice of Intravenous Therapy was published. Now in its seventh edition, it is still widely used in educating IV therapy nurses.
