Abstract
Access to timely, satisfactory dermatology care is an ongoing challenge that specifically impacts aging adults. Among the numerous barriers that older generations face, transportation emerges as a central obstacle that affects their ability to receive proper treatment and follow-up care. Overcoming this potential hurdle requires innovation in healthcare delivery from the current traditional brick-and-mortar option. One solution to closing this gap and improving treatment opportunities includes the collaboration with senior living facilities to provide on-site dermatologic care to this vulnerable population. This forward-thinking healthcare delivery model not only addresses access and transportation barrier issues but also offers additional advantages including personalized timely care, flexible patient scheduling, a culture of safety, space for patient dignity, and privacy as well as strengthens partnerships with ecosystem stakeholders. Dermatology nurses are uniquely positioned to advocate for older adults in need of appropriate dermatology services. It is our hope that the information in this article will support the successful delivery of on-site dermatology care for older adults.
