Endoscopic ultrasound imaging has become the "gold standard" in staging malignancies of the gastrointestinal tract. Accurate, precise staging allows the physician to plan the best course of treatment for the patient. Fine needle aspirate capability enables a tissue diagnosis of both the mass and any abnormal lymph nodes. This presentation will review basic endosonography technology, common gastrointestinal malignancies, and current staging models. Included will be ultrasound images, demonstrating staging using the TNM model.
