The research nurse is responsible to protect the health information of individuals and to educate them on how they can control the way in which their health information is used. This is vital, as a plan of action is in place by the federal government to electronify all medical records within 10 years to form a central database. This presentation will enhance the research nurse's knowledge of HIPAA and the impact on research.

We are pleased to present the abstracts from SGNA's 34th Annual Course, Charting a Course for Professional Growth. The diversity of these topics certainly reflects the richness and breadth of our specialty.
