The second chapter of the American Professional Wound Care Students Association has been established at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, New York, NY. Anthony Iorio, DPM, MPH, FACFAS, FACFAOM, Associate Professor and Chair Department of Primary Podiatric Medical Sciences, will serve as Faculty Advisor. Plans for educational seminars, chapter leadership, and opportunities to participate in the American Professional Wound Care Association's (APWCA) National Conference are being arranged.
APWCA2007 National Clinical Conference. APWCA National Clinical Conference will be held April 19-21, 2007, with postconference courses, Sunday, April 22, at the Sheraton Philadelphia City Center Hotel, Philadelphia, PA.
The conference's expert faculty includes world opinion leaders from 6 countries, who will provide clinically relevant information which, at times, challenges the concepts clinicians may take for granted in the daily treatment of patients. Take this opportunity to look outside of the box" in a multidisciplinary setting representing clinicians in all fields of medicine.
Cutting-edge concepts, such as "Stem Cells and Wound Care," "Are Fibroblasts Senescent in Chronic Wounds?," "Stoma Therapy," and much more will be discussed. The national clinical conference will offer all health care professionals who are involved in the treatment of wounds a comprehensive scientific program, and a variety of social activities.
Conferences courses will offer 33 AMA Physician's Recognition Award Category 1 Credits (ACCME) and 33 available CME credits are approved for podiatry by Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, which is approved by the Council of Podiatric Medical Education as a sponsor of continuing education in podiatric medicine. At press time, continuing education credit for nurses has been applied for and is pending.

The National Alliance of Wound Care (NAWC), a multidisciplinary certification organization offering the WCC credential to all levels of nurses, therapists, and physicians and their assistants, has elected its board of directors for 2007. "We are proud to have such a diversified board representing a significant cross-section of disciplines. This reflects the NAWC's commitment to continue to offer the WCC certification to a wide variety of wound care professionals throughout the continuum of health care," stated Debbie Hecker, RN, MBA, WCC, Executive Director. She added, "Our organization achieved 40% growth during 2006, completing the year with a total of 2700 certificants. Our WCC's are making a difference in the field, and through the organization and its board, we are planning significant support for our membership in 2007 and beyond."
