Kimberly A. Ferris walks us through all the steps to accomplish a successful return to work. But her experience in this field brings her to the conclusion that "clear communication" with all parties is the true key.

Their tour outlines the evolution and differentiates among the different credentials and their respective requirements. By the end of this tour you may be breathless. Keep in mind though that we are faced with "Alphabet Soup" (variety of initials identifying the credentials) and "Alphabet Soup" projects a practice that has brought much to the healthcare system in part because of the ability to evolve and change with the ever-changing needs of the clients case managers serve.

 

Sharron Edgar asks the reader the question, "What makes a workers' compensation nurse case manager effective?" To answer this question, she explains there has to be a balance between the expedient delivery of causally related, medically necessary care and a return to work. She ends her explanation by defining the necessary overview-focus on prioritizing tasks while still considering the overall objectives of the case manager's role. She underscores this overview by saying use your resources to the best advantage.
