Katrina Kish, Yucaipa, California. Kish, 42, a flight nurse with Mercy Air Services, was killed December 10, 2006, when the medical helicopter she was aboard crashed as it returned to its Victorville, California, base after transporting a patient. The pilot and paramedic were also killed. Kish is survived by her husband, son, parents, and brother.

Laura Vogel, Standish, Maine. Vogel, 27, a neonatal ICU nurse at Maine Medical Center in Portland, died January 4 in the Dominican Republic when the truck in which she was riding overturned. According to news reports, Vogel was there on a humanitarian mission organized by the University of Southern Maine to provide health care to rural villagers.
