Abstract
The objective of this study was to assess dietitians' uses of and beliefs related to the effectiveness of the Glycemic Index/Glycemic Load (GI/GL) when counseling overweight children. Dietitians (n = 120) having their degrees for 11 years or longer were more likely to use (P = .003) and believe in the effectiveness (P = .037) of GI/GL than those having their degrees for less than 11 years. Use of GI/GL was found to be significantly related to a dietitian's clinical setting. Those practicing in outpatient settings were more likely to use GI/GL than those in inpatient settings (P = .045).
