As a nurse with bipolar disorder, I was pleased by Marilyn Wargo's Reflections ("The Enduring Self," June). I facilitate a mood-disorder support group, and I've been surprised to see colleagues who function well despite their illness and with whom I've worked without knowing they were ill. I have run into professionals who discriminate against mentally ill patients. For that reason, I go to a local school of nursing to share my story with students. As much as we would like to think otherwise, health care professionals still stigmatize the mentally ill.
