The August Issues Update column, "Hazardous Conditions," raised some questions in my mind: is there some up-to-date information on safety systems for preventing hazardous drug exposures? If so, how widely implemented have these systems become?

Marian E. Condon responds: In 2004 the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health issued an alert titled "Preventing Occupational Exposures to Antineoplastic and Other Hazardous Drugs in Health Care Settings." It summarizes and updates research and offers guidelines on all aspects of drug safety measures and can be found online at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/2004-165/#b.
