I'm writing about "Caring for a Patient with Lymphedema" (June 2006). I'd like your readers to know about another treatment option called sequential pumping, in which a pump applies pressure in each section of a garment, distally to proximally. It can be done in the comfort of the patient's own home, which can be an advantage because treatment for lymphedema is usually lifelong. Studies have shown that sequential pumping is successful in selected patients. A prescription is required for any treatment of lymphedema.
