Wendy Ide Williams, an artist, has won grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, and the Corporation of Yaddo. Her work has been shown in solo exhibitions in the Albany, NY, area and in group exhibitions nationwide. Her painting Achieving Sleep appeared in the August 2003 issue of AJN. She is a student in the master's program in counseling at the College of Saint Rose in Albany.
Williams twice attended nursing school but was unable to complete her training because of health problems. She says, "In making this painting I used visual narrative to explore the feelings I had about having to put something on hold. Symbols can be personal or universal, and in this painting some are both: the body as it folds from life to death, branching roots, flowing water. If you look closely you'll see there's even a capped nurse waiting in the wings." Contact author: 49 Central Avenue, Ravena, NY 12143; [email protected].
