Your article "Black Widow Spider Bite" (Action Stat, May 2006) names only two spiders found in the United States that are considered venomous to humans: the brown recluse and the black widow. The hobo spider, commonly found in western and northwestern states, should be added to this list. The hobo spider's bite can cause major tissue necrosis, general sloughing, and systemic infections. We see lots of these bites in Utah.
