Because I live in the New Orleans area, I received my October 2005 issue of AJN many months late. I am grateful for the editorial ("Failure to Rescue"), which acknowledges the heroism and valor of the nurses who lived through Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. My experiences during the evacuation of our nursing home in Algiers have renewed my faith in and admiration of the American people, and nurses in particular, but have diminished my faith in the American government.
