Abstract
PURPOSE: To familiarize the physician and registered nurse with causal components for foot ulcers, offloading strategies, and pressure redistribution devices.
TARGET AUDIENCE: This continuing education activity is intended for physicians and nurses with an interest in learning about the at-risk diabetic foot and methods of preventing foot ulcers.
OBJECTIVES: After reading this article and taking the test, the participant should be able to:
1. State the causes of foot wounds in patients with diabetes and disorders that put the foot at risk.
2. Discuss the use of orthoses and other devices in the prevention and treatment of foot ulcers.
