Smith & Nephew, Largo, FL, has announced that effective April 1, 2006, US marketing rights for the IODOSORB and IODOFLEX brands will transfer from HEALTHPOINT, Ltd, Fort Worth, TX, to Smith & Nephew's Wound Management Division. Smith & Nephew owns and markets the brands throughout the world, with the exception of the United States. HEALTHPOINT has had exclusive US marketing rights for the past 10 years. HEALTHPOINT has stated that it will strive to provide an uninterrupted supply of the absorbent antimicrobials to its customers as the licensing agreement for these products expires.

 

IODOSORB and IODOFLEX are indicated for use in cleansing wet ulcers and wounds, such as venous ulcers, pressure ulcers, and infected wounds. The change in US distribution rights will not affect any aspect of the products or their manufacturing process.

Last year, DeRoyal, Powell, TN, launched an affiliate called 3PL Services, making DeRoyal the first and only manufacturer to provide rapid order fulfillment of physician-prescribed wound care supplies directly to the homes of insured patients with no up front cost. Today, the program has grown from 25 referral clinics and 68 patients to more than 150 facilities and over 540 patients. Insured patients can use 3PL Services when they have wounds requiring advanced dressings or supplies that are prescribed by their physicians and manufactured by DeRoyal.

 

DeRoyal supplies all major categories of wound dressings and can service most wounds, regardless of size, stage, or phase. DeRoyal 3PL is approved to bill Medicare Part B; Workers Compensation; and Tri-Care nationwide, the military's health care program for active military duty, retirees, their families, survivors, and other beneficiaries. It also serves patients covered by other major insurance providers, such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

National Healing Corporation (NHC), Boca Raton, FL, which accounts for 20% of the nation's managed and outsourced wound healing centers, has expanded its agreement with VHA Inc, a national health care alliance. As a contracted supplier, NHC will offer management services and the latest technology and expertise in wound healing to all VHA members in the United States.

 

In the span of 3 years, the relationship between NHC and VHA has grown from serving 2 VHA members to approximately 24. NHC will continue to make its programs available to hospitals outside of the VHA alliance.
