COVID-19 vaccination has been shown to prevent hospitalization and serious illness. The nursing profession has a moral obligation to provide education to the public and to our patients about the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine and what the current science is telling us ("Getting on Board with Vaccinations," Editorial, October 2021). I am thankful that many nursing journals are taking a stand on this issue. Nurses should be promoting evidence-based public health interventions and should be leaders in advocating for the public to get vaccinated and for equal access to the COVID-19 vaccine globally. Unfortunately, the conversation around vaccination has become so politicized, even in the discipline of nursing. Vaccination needs to remain a public health issue, not a political one.
