Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide. According to the WHO (World Health Organization [WHO], 2021), approximately 17.9 million persons die of CVD each year, representing 32% of all global deaths. Moreover, an estimated one-third of these CVD deaths occur prematurely in people under 70 years of age. Coronary heart disease is a major category of CVD, and heart attack and stroke together account for more than four of every five CVD deaths. In addressing this important disease, one article in this issue addresses intermittent fasting in weight loss and the reduction of cardiometabolic risk. In addition, two articles address issues related to quality of life and anxiety in persons undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention and after coronary artery bypass graft surgery. Their topics include health-related quality of life in patients with coronary artery disease undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention and the relationship between preoperative anxiety and atrial fibrillation following coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

Psychosocial outcomes such as depressive symptoms and quality of life are important health outcomes of nursing interventions. One article addresses the effects of a drama therapy intervention that combines theater and psychological therapies to improve depressive symptoms, attention, and quality of life in persons with dementia. Another article explores the effect of psychosocial factors and functional independence on poststroke depressive symptoms.

Nurses play a vital role in preventing, recognizing, and treating adolescent suicide and child abuse. In this issue, one study explores the relationship between the timing of sexual initiation and suicidal ideation among adolescents to better understand the risk factors of suicidal ideation. Another article uses a systemic review to assess the effectiveness of evaluative tools currently available to healthcare providers to screen for child abuse.

Nurses are the most important and largest contingent of workers in healthcare organizations, and the nursing profession faces many challenges under different settings and work modes. One article in this issue addresses the influence of professional autonomy and leadership style on the team-based practice of acute-care nurse practitioners. Another study explores the factors that influence turnover intention among operating-room nurses.
